ALE Summer 2002 No. 307

Great British Beer Festival 2002

This is always a major campaigning opportunity for CAMRA and this year it hosted the launch of Ask If It's Cask phase 3 under the slogan Hale Ninkasi!.

Edinburgh brewery Caledonian's Deuchars IPA (often seen in JD Wetherspoons pubs) is this year's Champion Beer of Britain, as selected by the blind tasting panel at the GBBF. The Silver winner was RCH's East Street Cream from Somerset and the Bronze Triple FFF's Moondance from Hampshire.

Two local breweries managed to impress the judges: Oakham JHB (last year's overall champion) won joint Bronze in the Best Bitter category and Nethergate Umbel Magna won Bronze in the Speciality Beers.
