ALE Summer 2004 No. 314
ALE Summer 2004 No. 314
As we reported in the previous ALE,
the
East Anglian Brewers Association
is encouraging local shops to stock local beers.
Twenty-five outlets have signed up so far, aided by grants
to cover details such as applying for an off-sales licence.
The initiative is supported by the
East of England Development Agency.
Branthill Farm, Wells-Next-The-Sea, specialises in high-quality malted barley
but is now opening
The Real Ale Shop
where the Association's beers will be available.
The Beer Naturally campaign
was launched by Coors and other brewers to promote British beer as a quality natural product, worthy
of consideration alongside wine.
Now Coors and the Independent Family Brewers of Britain have produced the
Summer Dining with a Difference guide to help match beer with food.
Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries and food and drink writer Fiona Beckett
have matched the low calorie beer Marston's Resolution (85 calories) with low calorie food combinations
for the weight-conscious.
The giant beer producer Interbrew, not previously known in the UK for promoting quality, is now apparently
passionate about delivering quality.
It's mostly known for its "reassuringly expensive" (cheaply-produced in south Wales) Stella Artois.
It wants its retailers to improve quality and consistency as it fears
the general trend towards the home-drinking market.
