Beer Quality

These are just a few of the current initatives trying to drive up standards of real ale.

Beer scoring scheme

CAMRA has a National Beer Scoring Scheme, based on small cards filled in during or after trips to pubs, to record the quality as found. The idea is to record scores for beers and pubs over an exterded period and then to use that infomation towards CAMRA's various awards, such as Champion Beers and Pubs of the Year.

Many branches run a local version of the scheme and Cambridge & District Branch now have our own Web-based one: Beer Quality Scoring. We encourage branch members to record their experiences with beers.

Provided we receive plenty of scores, giving a good coverage of pubs and coverage of any given pub over many months, we can use the information to help with our own Pub of the Year judging, with Good Beer Guide selection and with the Cambridgeshire Champion Beer of the Year competition.

Fullers have launched a customer feedback site and are keen to get reviews of beer quality across the UK:

Cask Marque

The Cask Marque initiative to drive up standards is growing, with many pub chains encouraging their publicans to improve and gain accrediation.

The Cask Marque Web site contains regional guides to accedited pubs and infomation about standards and training.
