Their main reason is that "the proposal would result in the loss of the last remaining public house in the village. The public house is considered to have the potential to make a significant contribution to the social amenity of the local population ... in addition, the application fails to demonstrate that the public house will not be economically viable in the future."

The owner had also wanted to erect a garden wall which gave rise to another reason for refusal - "The proposed garden wall, by virtue of its solid design, would obstruct the passage of small animals including frogs, toads and great crested newts"!

Two people have made offers to buy the White Horse from the owner to run it as a pub. He has so far refused the offers but the rejection of his application will hopefully lead him to change his mind.
