Terry and Kathy had finally left on 7 April last year with the first new landlord taking over that day. He did not stay long and was succeeded by a series of Punch Tavern managers providing cover. Two more landlords came and went as did the managers.

On 10 October Michael and Gillian May arrived and after a few days 'settling in' soon began to make their own mark. The internal decorations which were started by the immediately previous landlord were completed in predominantly pale colours giving a much brighter and larger effect. New window length curtains were put in place. A thorough clean throughout was completed. New bar stools and some table stools for the Pool Table end were provided.

The garden had become overgrown in recent years. In early November Michael, with some assistance, cut back a substantial amount of the overgrowth. More work is planned for the spring on the lawns, garden furniture and children's playground equipment.

On the Real Ale front the number on sale initially varied between three and four but is currently only one. The good cellaring and quick turn-around results in high quality ale all the time and decent variety. Beers to date have included Black Sheep, Spitfire, Bombardier, Broadside and Speckled Hen (the latter only once to try a strong beer and the only representative from 'that company'). A good range of the other standard products is offered.

Food is now available at lunchtimes daily. Monday to Saturday, noon to 2.30pm, there's a standard menu at reasonable prices with a variety of dishes and a couple of snacks. On Sundays (from 12.00 to 3.00pm) there's a Roast with a choice of Beef, Lamb or Pork for ?5.95. There is no need to book in advance yet, but that may change!

If you've been here before - try it again 'under new management'. If you haven't then give it a try - you could be pleasantly surprised.
