The Tuesday of the setup saw volunteers sheltering from hail. But by the time we opened on Monday the 21st of May, the sun had decided to put in an appearance. Clearly the beer festival is favoured.

Not only did the sun come out for the start, it stayed with us for the whole week, making this year yet another record-breaking year. Over 41,000 people came through the doors - 6,000 more than the previous record. Those visitors drank around 80,000 pints of real ale, 13,000 pints of cider and 9,000 pints of foreign beer.

As always, the public voted for a beer and cider of the festival. This year's first place went to Brentwood Brewing Company, with the excellent BBC2 - a 2.5% beer with a remarkable amount of depth. Second place wwnt to Liverpool Oranic's stout Kitty Wilkinson. The cider of the festival was Apple Cottage's Filty Tramp Juice.

We'll be back in a few months for the 6th Cambridge Octoberfest, on the 12th and 13th of October.
