The 36th Cambridge Beer Festival in May broke all records, with more than 90,000 pints sold to our 32,500 visitors. The total included 8,500 pints of cider and perry plus around 4,500 litres of foreign beer whilst the Chilford Hall wines and the meal bar both sold out. On the beer side, the emphasis this year was on East Anglian breweries in support of our LocAle scheme (see article elsewhere).
Over 500 people signed up as members of CAMRA and £3,309 was raised for our official charity, Next Steps, based in Arbury, who help people with learning difficulties and mental health problems, to develop life skills and confidence.
Our grateful thanks to everyone who attended and, in particular, to our brilliant volunteer staff, especially the unsung heroes and heroines who helped with the unglamorous tasks of putting the festival up and taking it down again.
And so to the Beers of the Festival and yet another triumph for Mark Watch and his Cambridge Moonshine brewery.
