Raving Loony H.Q. is Pub of the Year

Cambridge and District CAMRA's Pub of the Year for 1995 is The Cambridge Blue in Gwydir Street, Cambridge. Those who know this splendid local will no doubt feel the award is long-overdue.

The Blue used to be a Tolly pub called The Dewdrop until it was bought and refurbished by Chris and Debbie Lloyd of Free Press fame in the mid-eighties. They ran it themselves for a while, then leased it to Banks and Taylor, the small Bedfordshire brewery. It is now leased by the Nethergate brewery of Clare in Suffolk. Landlord Nick Winnington has been at the pub since October 1989, previously having had seven years at the Alma. At the last General Election, Nick was a Parliamentary candidate for the Monster Raving Loony Party. The pub was party H.Q. and displays many of the eccentric touches associated with that time.
